Sale and Promotion Signs for Los Angeles Stores: Banners, Window Graphics and A-Frames That Get Read

A sale that nobody can read from the sidewalk is a sale that only your regulars find out about. Below is what works for promotions on Los Angeles storefronts, what each option costs to run, and the mistakes we see most often. Everything here is based on the signs we print and install from our Pacoima shop for retailers, restaurants and service businesses across the city.

The four promotion signs that earn their money

1. Vinyl banners — the workhorse

A 13-oz vinyl banner with hems and grommets is the fastest, cheapest way to announce a sale, a grand opening or a new location. Printed and finished in-house, a standard 3 × 8 ft banner is usually ready in one to two working days. It hangs on a fence, a railing, a canopy or a wall; mesh vinyl is used where wind is a problem, such as parking-lot fences and rooftops.

What matters: one message, letters at least 4 inches tall for every 50 feet of viewing distance, and strong contrast (dark letters on a light background or the reverse). “50% off” in 12-inch letters beats a paragraph of small print every time.

2. Window graphics — the sign you already own space for

Your glass is free advertising space facing the street. For promotions we use three materials: removable adhesive vinyl for short sales (comes off clean in weeks or months), static-cling for offers that change every few weeks, and perforated window film when you want a full-color image outside and a clear view from inside. A store that changes its front-window promotion four times a year keeps its street presence fresh at a fraction of the cost of any paid advertising.

3. A-frame (sidewalk) signs

A sidewalk A-frame catches people who are already walking past. Choose a frame with a changeable insert or a chalkboard face so the offer can change daily. Check with us on placement: Los Angeles requires A-frames to keep the sidewalk passable, and some business districts have their own rules.

4. Feather flags and banner stands

Feather flags move, and movement gets noticed from a car. They suit lots, gas stations and any storefront set back from the road. Indoors, a retractable banner stand next to the register or the entrance does the same job for a bundle or an add-on offer.

What a promotion sign should say

  • The offer first, in the largest letters: “Grand Opening”, “20% Off Wraps”, “Now Open Sundays”.
  • A deadline: “Through October 15” turns a sign into a reason to stop today.
  • Your name and phone once, small, at the bottom. The building sign already carries your brand; the promotion sign carries the offer.
  • Your colors, but never at the expense of contrast.

Cost per day — the honest comparison

A $250 banner that hangs for three months costs under $3 a day and is seen by every car and pedestrian on your block. A full front-window graphic that lasts a year works out to a few dollars a day. No paid ad reaches the people already outside your door for that money. The signs above are the cheapest advertising a Los Angeles storefront can buy; the only way to waste them is a message nobody can read.

Permits and rules to know

Temporary banners in the City of Los Angeles are allowed for limited periods and sizes; permanent illuminated or building-mounted signs need a permit. We handle sign permits for anything permanent, and we will tell you plainly when a temporary sign has to come down.

Frequently asked questions

How fast can I get a sale banner? Usually one to two working days for standard sizes; same-day is possible for simple designs ordered in the morning.

Will window vinyl damage my glass? No. Removable vinyl and static-cling come off without residue; we remove them for you at the end of the promotion if you prefer.

Can you design the promotion? Yes. Send the offer and your logo; you get a proof the same day in most cases.
