Booze Brothers Liquor in Burbank had a pole out front and needed a sign on it that would read from the road in daylight and after dark. We built a lightbox cabinet with the store’s logo and installed it on the pole.
What we built
A square aluminum cabinet with rounded corners, black, with a white translucent face printed with the Booze Brothers logo: the three silhouettes, the name and “LIQUOR” with the bottle mark. LED modules inside light the face evenly. The cabinet was fabricated and wired in our Pacoima shop and lifted onto the pole by our crew.
Why a lightbox on a pole
- Height. A pole sign sits above parked cars and traffic, so it is visible from further down the street than a wall sign.
- Visible from both directions. A pole sign faces the road, so drivers see it coming either way.
- Reusing a pole. Putting a new cabinet on an existing pole avoids the cost and permitting of a new structure. We check the pole and footing first.
Logo on a lightbox
A lightbox is the most economical way to put a full-colour logo up high and lit. The graphics are printed on translucent vinyl and applied to the face, so the black silhouettes stay solid black at night and the white glows around them. For a simpler logo we would cut the graphics from translucent vinyl instead; for photographs or gradients we print.
Permits in Burbank
Burbank has its own sign code. Replacing the cabinet on an existing pole sign still needs a permit for the illuminated sign, and the city checks size and height. We handled the drawings and the application.
