Yiaya Greek Yogurt is a new frozen Greek yogurt shop opening in Palo Alto. Before the doors open, the storefront needs a sign that people walking along the sidewalk can read. We built this outdoor blade sign for them in our Pacoima shop.
What we built
A rectangular panel in Yiaya’s own colors: an off-white face with a sky-blue border and a thin dark trim line, carrying the name in large dimensional letters in a warm taupe finish, with “Greek Yogurt” in smaller letters underneath. The letters stand off the face, so the sign reads clearly in daylight and throws a soft shadow line that makes the lettering pop. The panel is built for outdoor use.
Why a blade sign
- It faces the sidewalk. A blade sign mounts at a right angle to the building, so people walking past see it long before they are in front of the door. A flat wall sign is only readable from across the street.
- It suits a walkable street. University Avenue-style retail streets are full of pedestrians; the blade sign is the one they notice.
- Two faces. Foot traffic coming from either direction gets the same sign.
Matching the brand
Yiaya’s look is simple and warm: cream, soft blue and a serif wordmark. We reproduced the wordmark exactly rather than substituting a stock typeface, and matched the colors to the brand so the sign, the cups and the website all read as one thing.
