A luxury boutique cannot cover its display windows: the window is the store. For the Casablanca boutique in Beverly Hills, the holiday-season the brief was to dress the glass in snowflakes without hiding a single mannequin, and to take it all down cleanly in January.
Clear vinyl, white ink
We printed the snowflake pattern in white ink on clear vinyl. On clear film only the printed shapes are visible; everything else stays glass, so the display behind it is untouched. Because the ink is white rather than a light-colored print, the flakes read from both sides: bright against the dark evening sky from outside, and crisp against the lit display from inside the store. A two-sided effect from a single layer.
Installed outside
The panels went on the outside of the glass. Inside, the display lighting and the tinted glazing would have dulled the white; outside, the flakes catch the streetlight and the shop lights equally. A removable adhesive means the panels come off without residue when the season ends, and the same artwork can be reprinted next year.
