When a new restaurant opens in a shopping center, the first sign most customers see is not on the building. It is the tenant panel on the pylon by the road. We installed the new lightbox face for Kabob Bowl on the Premier Plaza pylon sign on North San Fernando Road in Los Angeles, alongside the other tenants of the center.
What we did
The pylon is a tall multi-tenant cabinet with a panel for each business. We produced a new translucent face with the Kabob Bowl logo and lettering, sized to the existing panel opening, and our crew installed it from the bucket truck: remove the old face, check the lighting inside the cabinet, fit and secure the new face. The restaurant was on the sign the same day.
Why the pylon panel matters
Kabob Bowl serves build-your-own Mediterranean bowls and plates in a busy center shared with a donut shop, a sandwich chain, a dentist and a phone store. On a road like San Fernando Road, drivers decide where to turn in from the pylon, not from the storefront. A crisp, lit panel at eye level for traffic is the cheapest advertising the restaurant will ever buy, and it works 24 hours a day.
How a tenant panel change works
- Measure the opening. Every pylon is different; we measure the existing panel or retainer so the new face fits without gaps.
- Design to the panel. A logo built for a menu or a website usually needs to be simplified to read from the road.
- Produce the face. Translucent panel with applied graphics, or a printed flex face for larger openings.
- Install with the right equipment. A tall pylon needs a bucket truck and a crew who do this weekly. We own ours, so there is no rental wait.
- Check the lighting. A new face on a dark cabinet is wasted; we test and repair the lamps or LEDs while we are up there.
Landlord approval
Most centers require the landlord’s sign criteria to be followed and the panel change to be approved before installation. We provide the drawing the landlord and the city ask for. See sign permits and approvals.
Opening in a shopping center?
We handle the pylon panel, the storefront sign and the interior signs as one job, so everything is up on opening day. See sign installation, sign repair and maintenance, or contact us with the address of the center.
